For the second day in a row, the morning walk here in Fort Lauderdale has brightened my day. I often forget during the normal routine of the non holiday time period, what waking up and taking a walk can do to refresh your entire day.
On this morning’s walk, I saw the Zephyrhills truck drop off cases of bottled water as well as a 5 gallon jug to two of my neighbors a few streets over. First, getting bottled water seems a bit ridiculous since I am reasonably sure that the grocery near by sells these cases for less that $6/case of 24, second having it delivered with all that plastic, seems like an old habit that is hard to break.
What my neighbors need is an in home Multipure Water Filter system. These are the best water filters on the market and the gold standard for carbon block filtration. Did you hear about the hotel in Miami last week? Apparently there was some contamination in the hotel water supply causing the hotel to shut down. I don’t know the total number of deaths but suffice it to say, anything greater than zero is a travesty in water filtration.
Back to the multipure water filter. The multipure corporation also provides stainless steel water bottles that are top of the line to complement the best water filter on the market. These stainless steel water bottles are an easy replacement for plastic water bottles and guess what, it is a one time investment. Simply fill the bottle from your sink connected multipure water filter and put it in the refrigerator for later use. What could be simpler?

We are on vacation this week in preparation for Christmas morning and while I would have loved to have slept in today, our daughters had a sleepover last evening so the house was full of pre teen girls snoozing, and well, they would have to be fed at some point.
My wife, ever the environmentalist, suggested that we embrace the cool morning(note , we are in Fort Lauderdale, so cool is 62 degrees) and walk our dog to the bagel shop and pickup some for the girls. Basically, her way of getting my butt out of bed and spending some one on one time with each other. It was a good idea.
Our dog Abby, who I am sure I have written about before, was going on her longest walk yet, probably close to 2 miles and over one bridge. Armed with our leash and not 1 but 2 biodegradable dog poop bags we made our way. Abby is a funny little dog, in fact, it was the family Christmas gift 2 years ago. Somewhat lazy, but certainly she has endeared herself to our family over these past two years.
The walk over was basically uneventful as she did her business on the way over (keeping count, that is one dog poop bag gone and one remaining) and when we stopped by the Vet’s office on the walk to get a dog treat, in which she had no interest, it was a brisk pace.
My wife and I ate our breakfast at Panera Bread and grabbed a 6 pack of bagels and an tub to take back with us for the sleepover group.
Sure enough, midway on the walk back, Abby had one more present to give us which made me glad to have grabbed two biobag dog waste bags before we left home. As expected when we returned, the girls were just waking up and hungry.
So , for an easy green vacation morning, go for a walk and bring you dog. If you are living in the snow laden north, my hat is off to you. My blood and wardrobe is too thin to support that climate.
Happy holidays and till next time….

I was reading a great article today by Lori Bongiorno on Cities with the Best and Worst Water, sad to say, Florida had two cities in the top 10 worst in the nation. Who would have envisioned that the state that was once the home to the proverbial fountain of youth could have dropped so quickly. I enjoyed the article so much, I have it linked here, Cities with the Best and Worst Tap Water. Please be sure to check it out.
That brings me to other terrifying news and hopefully I am not sounding Glen Beck like in this paragraph but I was watching the Discovery Channel the other night, and they had a piece on the City of Milwaukeee’s drinking water problems several decades ago. The cause of the outbreak was not known but what happened was that several people died due to some bacteria in the drinking water. What’s in your water?
If you are concerned about your tap water, I recommend the Multipure Water Filter. This filter is the gold standard and I consider it to be the best water filter that money can buy. Now you can go on the cheap for water filtration, but really, you want a filter that will do the job to take contaminents out of your water supply just in case your city falls on the list of worst tap water.
So, please read the article by Lori Bongiorno, and till next time…

While driving home today with my children, we noticed a young girl walking her dog, or more specifically, letting her dog poop and to our dismay, without a bag to pick it up with. As we drove by, it was easy to see that she was embarrassed by these happenings and even more so since it was in my neighbor’s yard across the street from our home. What to do I thought.
My oldest daughter commented that the girl wasn’t prepared for the walk since she didn’t even have a bag and my youngest daughter commented, it is disgusting to have to carry dog poop around during the walk even though they do it.
So here is an easy lesson for parents and children of dog owners. Start early on the responsibility of owning a dog and what it means when you take the animal for a walk. The biobag biodegradable dog poop bag is very easy to use and has instructions on the side. Once you start using dog poop bags as a normal ritual, it becomes instinctual just as it is to grab your leash when you walk out the door with your pet.
Parents, take the time to show kids that yes, it is gross, it is painless and won’t get on you when you use the bag correctly. These biodegradable dog poop bags even have printed instructions on the bag in case there is any question on the proper usage. Starting young on this very basic thing will ensure that your dog loving children grow up as responsible dog owners and, more importantly, that they won’t be one of those people whisper about at parties. You know the type of people we are talking about.

Over the course of the past two decades, I have labored at the thought of shopping for my mother in law. From digital picture frames last year that she hates to plug in, to a new microwave, it is a process where both my wife (her mother) and I run empty of ideas.
This year we have decided to bring a little nature into her home. When she relocated 6 years ago from the north, my brother in law and I completely updated her new home with floors, paint, curtains, you name it. A home that was ready for her to move into. What we didn’t bring was nature. In fact, I would say that we probably treated more as a rental property rather than a new nest for mom.
So, for this Christmas, we are giving her a Hemp Shower Curtain. This material is naturally anti-fungal and anti-bacterial which means it is not liable to mildew and stains. Hemp is a natural plant fibre and is very similar to linen and cotton. Hemp shower curtains are very durable and can be washed repeatedly without any ill-effects. On top of this, hemp is often grown in environmentally friendly environments and colored with natural dyes.
I am sure that this gift will get more mileage than the computer and email account she got for her birthday. So, what to give grandma for Christmas? Bring a little nature home with a hemp or cotton shower curtain.
